Retrevo Pulse onderzoek
Whether or not the iPad will be snapped up by the masses remains to be seen but it's off to a good start. As Steve Jobs said Apple has sold one every three seconds since it went on sale. That said, if anything can compete with the iPad it’s going to be an army of Android-based tablets running Android apps selling for less than an iPad.

Yahoo iPad user analysis
The user base continues to skew male, but is becoming more gender-balanced; the male to female ratio moved from 2:1 to 3:2.
As the iPad user base on Yahoo! has increased, the interest in business/investment topics among these iPad users did not decrease. On the contrary, it grew 46% compared to the Yahoo! iPad Early Adopters, or 130% more than an average Y! U.S. user. The search category also has the highest penetration rate index; these Y! iPad users are 2.8 times more likely to search for investment-related information than the Y! U.S. Average.
Yahoo! iPad users outside of the U.S. show similarities in demographics. In general, the male skew is the same internationally as it is in the U.S., though it is stronger in Japan, where male users outnumber women 4:1. Similarly, the 35–44 age cohort is the largest among all international iPad users on Yahoo!.
When I asked Resolve about the age groups of iPad users, I found out some other interesting information. The first owners of the iPad tended to be young professionals, 22-45, who were either early adopters in general or had a highly connected and mobile lifestyle.
However, the next group of adopters and those interested in buying an iPad are much older than the one might expect (45+). Anecdotally, I’ve seen this in my own travels and discussions with iPad or future iPad owners. The first wave of iPad owners were people like myself. The second wave of iPad owners, at least from what I’m seeing, have more in common with my parents.
Studies have already shown that the iPod touch is a great gateway device to the broader iOS ecosystem for young teens and pre-teens. The iPad has the potential to attract the other end of that market.
IPAD Usagage trends revealed in New Resolve Market Research Study
What’s surprising about this research is that consumers end up spending a lot of time playing casual games on their iPads and many will not buy a new portable gaming device as a result. This negatively impacts portable gaming as consumers want to carry fewer devices over time,” says Elaine B. Coleman, Ph.D., Chief Research Officer for Resolve Market Research."
The iPad is trending towards a major takeover given that users of e-Readers and portable gaming devices intend to forego buying those devices in the future and instead defer to the iPad for their e-reading and portable gaming needs. 60% of iPad owners/intenders view portable gaming devices as most enjoyable for playing games, and yet 38% say they will not buy new portable gaming devices after owning an iPad.

- “The iPad may serve as a gateway device to AT&T’s wireless business. Not only are a surprisingly large percentage of iPad intenders planning to buy their first Apple product, but many of them are also currently subscribing to other carriers. Greater exposure to the iPhone OS might produce interest in their mobile or computer offerings.
- 37% of planned iPad purchasers will be first-time Apple customers
- 44% of iPad intenders are Verizon customers and 19% are with AT&T
- 41% intend to purchase an Apple iPhone within the year.
